Your Mind's Eye

First Assignment:

Despite your self-identification (visual, mathematical, philosophical thinker, etc.) imagining someone you are close to is an important part of understanding your relationship with them. Maybe the picture that pops up in your head is fuzzy or incomplete: is this someone you see rarely or not at all? Maybe it is not a picture at all but a sound, a smell, a voice. For this assignment, ask your granddaughter to draw a picture of you from memory. Do the same for her. This can be as representational as you like, your talent as an artist is not the thing at stake. Rather, what you can learn from this, from visualizing one another and then representing this visualization in a physical form, is how the two of you relate to one another, think about one another when you are apart.
